Statement from the Alamo Colleges District supporting International Students
July 14, 2020
Building and supporting a globally competitive workforce is a core element of our work at the Alamo Colleges District.
We take pride in our collaboration around the world with various partners to build strong international programs. We recognize the value of having diverse minds at our colleges as students, staff and faculty. This week’s decision by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to modify the regulations for online courses permitted under the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) causes us concern and runs contrary to our core values. That is why the Alamo Colleges District and our family of colleges—Northeast Lakeview College, Northwest Vista College, Palo Alto College, St. Philip’s College and San Antonio College want to reiterate our support for our international students.
We are still reviewing the information provided by the Department, but it appears that these new modifications will have an impact on our students with F-1 visas who plan to start or continue study at any one of our colleges.
Please know that we are working to do everything possible to help each student remain on track with their studies at the Alamo Colleges. For our international students impacted by these regulations, we will work with each of you to make sure that your course schedule meets federal requirements for your F-1 visa.
In the coming days, our International Student Services and Recruitment Office will be providing additional information. Students with questions or concerns should reach out to your College’s Designated School Official or to the Office of International Programs via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. We recognize you are in the midst of making many time sensitive decisions and will work to help you in that process.
It is at times like this, when we must stick together. We commit to our international students to continue to welcome you, advocate for you, and celebrate your successes. We are one Alamo Colleges family and will continue to provide updates as they become available.
