SPC's Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Induction Ceremony
All are welcome to celebrate student excellence during the St. Philip's College Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society fall 2017 induction ceremony Nov. 29 at 5 p.m in the Watson Fine Arts Center at 1801 Martin Luther King Drive in the City's Denver Heights neighborhood. The ceremony features the induction of 125 students into both the world’s largest educational honor society and the official honor society of two-year colleges www.alamo.edu/spc/Phi-theta-Kappa.
Guests will meet with students who earned their way to graduation-with-honors with a class rank in the top 20 percent. The event is also a fifth anniversary celebration of the date that students and employees made college history in 2012 by leading their chapter from top-100-of-500-in-Texas status to top-three-of-500-in-Texas status.
In 2017, excellence in moral wisdom earned the chapter the society's Honors in Action - Individualism vs. Collectivism College Project Award for communicating the college's Quality Enhancement Plan specialty---Ethical-Decision Making.
The topic was chosen as part of the college's Quality Enhancement Program-Ethical Decision Making special projects initiative www.alamo.edu/spc/qep/. The plan is a multi-year project to improve an important aspect of student learning through broad-based involvement and is a requirement of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). Ethical Decision Making is the plan topic chosen by college constituents: students, faculty, staff, administrators and external advisory committee members as each of these groups gave input to the college’s selected topic. To that end, ethical decision making is actively taught in some form to all students and employees at St. Philip's College, and engagement with the association is of great interest to both students and employees.
The newly inducted students are joining current society members who have been on amazing journeys. Here are a few of them:
