SPC Announced a TX FAME Recruitment Open House Event
40 openings with CPC Energy, H-E-B, Takata, Toyota and Toyotetsu: Recruiting now for class of 2018, Texas Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education and St. Philip’s College announce Dec. 2 open house date.
St. Philip’s College announced today the date of the college’s first Texas Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education (TX FAME) recruitment open house for the 2018 season, and that the remaining 2018 open house season will be announced at the program’s open house page https://www.alamo.edu/spc/txfame/ in January.
The first recruiting event for the class of 2018 is Dec. 2 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. in Room 117 of the Alamo Colleges District Center for Workforce Excellence (Bldg. 8) at 800 Quintana Rd (building marked as "6" on the interactive maphttp://alamo.edu/spc/imap-swc/).
The open houses are where prospective candidates receive information about this combined paid education-and-training program, meet the recruiting college and corporate representatives, and learn what it takes to earn a certification as an Advanced Manufacturing Technician, explained Donlee Wilson and John Haral. Wilson is the college’s advanced manufacturing technology program coordinator, and Haral is college’s aircraft, construction, and manufacturing department chair.
The college and the federation recruit 40 students each year, with classes starting in the fall. St. Philip's College's unique associate of applied science advanced manufacturing technology degree program in partnership with TX FAME is a national educational success story featuring a college degree from the nation’s largest HBCU following two years of paid employment in advanced manufacturing at the facilities of sponsoring employers CPS Energy, H-E-B, Takata, Toyota and Toyotetsu Texas, Inc. Three St. Philip's College alumni cohorts of the program have worked three days a week for sponsoring employers, and upon graduation the alumni became eligible for an entry-level full-time position with the sponsoring employers. Women and minorities are well-represented among the alumni of this program, both Wilson and Haral shared.
