Dear H-E-B Scholarship Committee, Thank you so much for awarding me the H-E-B Scholarship. Your generosity means more than you know. This support will help ease the financial burden of my education and allow me to continue working toward a better future for myself and my children.
I am currently studying Kinesiology because I want to build a career in education and basketball coaching. I have always enjoyed sports, but as I have gotten older I have realized that coaching is about much more than basketball. It is about helping young people build confidence, discipline, responsibility and the belief that they can accomplish something even when life gets difficult.
Going back to college as an adult has been important to me because I am not only working toward a degree for myself. I am a father of three and I want my children to see that it is never too late to go after something you believe in. Balancing school, work and family has not always been easy, but it has made me more determined to finish what I started. My short-term goal is to complete my associate degree and continue my education so I can eventually earn a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology or a related field. After completing my education, I plan to pursue opportunities in coaching, preferably at the middle or high school level. I want to become the type of coach who teaches athletes how to handle both success and failure and who understands that every player has different challenges outside of the gym. Long term, I want coaching to become more than just a job. I want to be someone young athletes can look up to and trust. I also hope to use my experiences to become a motivational speaker and encourage young people to take their education seriously and keep pushing forward.
As a parent, my goal is to lead by example and show my kids that education, hard work, and perseverance can open doors to a brighter future. This scholarship is not just an investment in my education, but an investment in my children’s future and the opportunities I hope to provide for them.
