Biology: Pre-Pharmacy

Program Level: Pre-Majors/Transfer
Department: Natural Sciences
Institute: Health & Biosciences
College: SAC

What is the Biology: Pre-Pharmacy program?

The Biology Pre-Pharmacy program is designed for students who intend to pursue a career as a pharmacist. The program creates a foundation for you to transfer to a four-year university in preparation for a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) program.

What will I learn?

You will study the foundations of the program, including biology, chemistry, physics and math.

What can I do with this course of study?

With your associate degree from SAC, you’ll be able to transfer into a university bachelor’s program as a junior. This program will prepare you to continue your education in chemistry, biology or other natural sciences, with the goal of entering a PharmD program. As a pharmacist, you can explore a variety of career pathways, including working in a retail setting, a clinical healthcare setting, in the pharmaceutical industry, or in specialty areas such as geriatric or veterinary pharmacy.

What's special about this program?

Finishing an associate degree with a pre-pharmacy emphasis allows students to incur less debt on the path to a PharmD.

Because interaction between faculty and students is one of the biggest drivers of student success, this program includes smaller class sizes for more individual attention, faculty and student tutors in the BioSpot learning center, and a faculty advisor.
