Nov. 16-20 Event

We are celebrating International Education Week (IEW) from November 16-20. IEW is an opportunity to celebrate the benefits of international education and exchange worldwide. PAC will be hosting virtual events that highlight different countries throughout the week. 

 

Schedule

Monday, Nov. 16

Mexico: Frida Khalo Museum

1–2 p.m.

Presenters: Dr. Lori Rodriguez and Magdalena Yznaga

Join us for an hour-long Virtual Tour of The Frida Kahlo Museum. The Blue House, which is known for the structure's cobalt-blue walls; it is a historic house museum and art museum dedicated to the life and work of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. This museum is a highlight of the Mexico Study Abroad program.

Spain: Exploring Cultural Differences

3–4 p.m.

Presenters: Lloyd Walsh and Dr. Pilar Damron

Participants will learn and participate in a comparison of Spanish and American cultures, ranging from family, food and customs, including Spanish art from Baroque artists to contemporary artists like Picasso and Dali.

Tuesday, Nov. 17

India: Discover Folk Art and Crafts

8:30–9:30 a.m.

Presenter: Tanvi Jain, International Scholar and Artist
Sponsor by Dr. Alba DeLeon and the PAC Art Department

Introduction to the colonial history and the rich folk arts and crafts of India. The presentation takes into account the repurposing of materials and objects in art with a special focus on Indian art.

Greece: Hummus Food Demo

4–5 p.m.

Join as we learn to make hummus, a traditionally Greek food. Choose between roasted red pepper, garlic or chocolate dessert hummus with your choice of carrot sticks, pita chips, or pretzels.

Japan: Marital Arts and Yoga Demonstration

Join us for a martial arts demonstration by Tony Longoria and yoga, stretching, meditation, and exercise techniques by Timothy Castillo!

Mexico: National Anthropology Museum

10–11 a.m.

Presenter: Magdalena Yznaga

Considered one of the world's most comprehensive natural history museums, this famous institution houses four square kilometers of exhibits in 23 exhibition halls. Come with us on this virtual tour of the best museum in Mexico. This museum is a highlight of the Mexico Study Abroad program.

Japan: Ukiyo-e Woodcut Demonstration

Noon–1 p.m.

Presenter: Sabra Booth

Students are encouraging to attend a demonstration on printing a carved woodcut using the techniques of Edo Period, 19th Century Japanese Artists. Students partake during the Japan Study Abroad Program in this activity.

Ireland: Science and Technology Institute
Trinity College – Dublin – Science and Tech Institute

Presenters: Brad Chandler, Dr. Áine Kelly, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Science Education from Trinity College in Dublin

In collaboration with Trinity College in Dublin, the presentation will highlight Trinity College’s science gallery and discuss insights regarding opportunities for women and men in the sciences and studying in Europe.
