Palo Alto College offers high-quality, affordable, and FUN summer camp options for children ages 5 to 17! This year, we’ve added the option to sign up for specialized mini-camps to enhance your child’s full-day summer camp experience. Check out the summer camp options below. 

 

Youth (ages 5–12)


Palo Alto College Kids’ Summer Camp

The Palo Alto College Kids’ Summer Camp is designed to promote leadership and character development for children ages 5 – 12 through physical activity and classroom learning customized by age group. Each week, campers will enjoy a variety of themed activities focusing on sports and hands-on projects, with a special Friday field trip. Students should bring a sack lunch. Blast-off with Space Exploration
Students will explore their interest in the planets, stars and space travel, and will gain a sense of the importance and wonderment of what the future of space exploration holds. Camp is Monday-Thursday for Session 6 (July 23-26) from 9-11:30 a.m. $20 per session.

“Books Alive” Theatre Camp
Students of all ages will learn to bring books alive by re-enacting characters out of their favorite books borrowed from the Palo Alto College Children’s Library. Students ages 11-12 will also gain hands-on stage technology experience such as lighting, sound, and set building. Books will change each session. Camp is Monday-Thursday for Session 1 (June 11-14), Session 3 (June 25-28), Session 5 (July 16-19), Session 7 (July 30-Aug. 2) from 9-11:30 a.m. $20 per session.

Discover Robotics
Note: The curriculum will be the same for each session. Participants will be limited to one session. Students will learn about the amazing world of robots and robotics through hands-on activities including building their very own age-appropriate robot. Camp is Monday-Thursday for Session 4 (July 9-12) and Session 8 (Aug. 6-9) from 9-11:30 a.m. $20 per session.

Learn to Swim at the Aquatic Center
Students will learn the skills needed to swim efficiently through four one-hour sessions in a group setting (7:1 ratio). At the end of each session, swimmers will receive a certificate for each level of completion. $20 per session. Learn to Swim classes are also available for ages 2 and older and can be registered without Kids’ Summer Camp, though prices may vary

Pre-Teen & Teen (ages 11 – 17)


She Code Connect™ (morning or afternoon half-day sessions)

Learn to code with Youth Code Jam this summer at Palo Alto College’s FREE, ALL-GIRLS summer camp! Students will learn about computer science through real-world projects using art, storytelling, robotics, website design, game design, apps and about the wide range of careers in technology by meeting women in technology. The top five students of each camp session will be awarded scholarships to future Youth Code Jam Coding Camps and have their projects showcased in the Palo Alto College STEM Center and on the Youth Code Jam website. Lunch will be provided for all She Code Connect™ Campers. She Code Connect™ coding camps and lunches are funded by the Texas Workforce Commission, allowing for a free summer coding experience.

Ages: Incoming 6th-8th grade students
Price: FREE (students are only able to attend one (1) out of the four (4) sessions)

Participation Requirements:
  • Students must identify as female.
  • Students and parents must provide end-of-year report card. This will be reviewed by camp director to confirm camp placement. Report cards should be submitted to Erron Gonzalez at egonzalez366@alamo.edu.
  • Students are required to attend a minimum of four days of the session in which they are enrolled.

Time: 8 a.m. – Noon
Students will use their arts and crafts skills to create silly characters using Micro:bits and watch them move, light up and more!

Session 2: Website Design - If registration is full and you would like to be added to the waitlist, please click here.
Dates: Aug. 6 – 10
Times: 1 – 5 p.m.
Students will remix their school’s website and then have the opportunity to design their very own website!

Session 3: JavaScript Programing with Vidcode - If registration is full and you would like to be added to the waitlist, please click here.
Dates: Aug. 13 – 17
Time: 8 a.m. – Noon
Students will have the opportunity to make a video with special effects using Snapchat and Instagram-inspired filters, memes and more!

Session 4: App Development - If registration is full and you would like to be added to the waitlist, please click here.
Dates: Aug. 13 – 17
Times: 1 – 5 p.m.
Students will create and build a real world mobile app that may be just for fun or may solve a real problem in the world.

STEM Experience (morning half-day sessions)

Students in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Experience will participate in hands-on activities in STEM related fields including Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, and Computer Coding.  Students will join Palo Alto College faculty and partners for interactive two-week lab sessions and take their new lab knowledge on the road with Friday field trips to see how STEM impacts San Antonio. The STEM Experience is supported by Palo Alto College’s SEEDS grant funded by the Department of Education HSI-STEM & Articulation Program. Students can only be registered for one of the STEM Experience sessions.
Ages: 11-17 (check session for ages)
Price: FREE
Optional Lunch: $40 for one session (two weeks), provided by Palo Alto College dining services. Lunch items served include hot dog, cheeseburger, chicken tenders sandwich, chicken nuggets, pizza stick, and more.

Afternoon Mini-Camps (as add-on for STEM Experience participants or stand-alone registration)

Please note that STEM Experience students registered for an afternoon mini-camp should purchase the lunch add-on or bring a sack lunch from home.

Sports Camp (half-day)

Students will spend their afternoons focusing on a different sports activity each day as well as open gym activities. No previous sports experience is necessary. Students will also be treated to a fun-filled extravaganza on the last Friday of each two-week session.

Students will gain hands-on stage technology experience such as stage-lighting, sound, and set building. All activities will be conducted in the Performing Arts Center Black Box classroom.
