Roots to the Future Poetry Slam is open to students and community members and invites participants to explore identity, heritage, and hope through spoken word. Poets trace lines from ancestral memory to future possibility, sharing original work that reflects personal stories, cultural roots, and visions for what lies ahead. All are welcome to attend, listen, and step on stage to perform in a supportive, inclusive environment that celebrates creativity and expression.

The Black History Month Kickoff celebrates community presence and cultural entrepreneurship on campus with participation from Black-owned businesses and local organizations. The event highlights connections between students, community partners, and campus resources in an interactive, welcoming environment. The first 100 attendees will receive lunch provided by Tony’s Mission Kitchen.

Empowerment in the Workforce
Empowerment in the Workforce brings students and community members together for a conversation on navigating today’s professional landscape. The event features a soul food tasting, a “Where Are We Now?” panel, and discussion on practical career pathways, workplace barriers and strategies for long-term success. Attendees will have opportunities for questions, dialogue, and networking.

Afro-Latinx Lotería
Afro-Latinx Lotería, co-hosted by Somos La Gente, offers an interactive, high-energy cultural experience that blends tradition, art, and community engagement. Participants play with custom illustrated cards highlighting Afro-Latinx icons, music, and historical figures while learning about shared heritage in a fun and inclusive setting.

Jeopardy Night
Black History Jeopardy Night is an interactive trivia event designed and hosted by Sharon Gerry that challenges participants’ knowledge of Black history and culture. The event includes food, friendly competition, and a brief reflection activity inviting attendees to capture one insight gained and one personal next step inspired by the experience.
