Where passion for technology meets limitless potential- Victor is a scholar committed to growth, excellence, and service.

The youngest of three children, Victor credits his parents—who work in the oil and gas industry—for instilling in him a strong work ethic and sense of discipline. “The commitment my parents made to provide for our family has kept me moving forward,” he says.

Victor chose to attend the Alamo Colleges after a casual but meaningful conversation with a few coworkers during the height of the pandemic. At the time, he was working as a produce associate at a supermarket when the group began discussing their futures and their desire for personal and professional growth. One coworker shared that he had enrolled at one of the Alamo Colleges to pursue an Associate degree. Inspired by the conversation and fueled by his lifelong interest in engineering and technology, Victor began exploring the opportunities available through the Alamo Colleges. Shortly after applying, he received a call from Northwest Vista College—his campus of choice—and connected with an advisor in his major, officially beginning his educational journey.

"I am someone that believes in perseverance, hard work, respect, generosity, reciprocity, and empathy. However, I am aware that I am not perfect, I am flawed, but that does not mean that I do not try to better myself each day. In addition, I am also aware that my educational journey will be met with challenges, yet those are the challenges that will help me grow into a better student, better son, and better person.”

On campus, Victor is actively involved as a member of the Cyber Security Club, Men of Vista Engage, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, the Student Leadership Institute, and serves as an Alamo Colleges Foundation Ambassador. His achievements extend well beyond the classroom. Victor is a scholar of multiple NASA workforce development programs and was one of only 39 students selected to present a poster at the National Academy of Science, Engineering, and Medicine in Washington, D.C., in celebration of the 20th anniversary of the National Nanotechnology Initiative.

Victor was awarded the Oppenheimer Scholarship, a competitive scholarship that recognizes high-achieving students who demonstrate exceptional academic performance and dedication to their educational goals.

Recently, Victor was accepted into the Advanced Technology Technician Training program, an eight-month virtual program offered through Pasadena City College and the National Science Foundation. He was also selected to participate in the STEM workshop of the New Frontiers of Sound (NewFOS) Technology Center at the University of Arizona, in partnership with the University of Colorado Boulder.

Looking ahead, Victor hopes to transfer to a four-year university to major in Electrical Engineering—one that fits him academically while allowing him to learn, grow, and prepare for graduate school.
