Anthropology

Program Level: Degrees, Pre-Majors/Transfer
Department: Natural Sciences
Institute: Science & Technology
College: SAC

What is the Anthropology course of study?

Through SAC’s Anthropology program, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of the human experience that will teach you to see the world in a new way and complement any future course of study.

What will I learn?

Anthropology at SAC includes three of the four major fields of anthropology: physical or biological anthropology (the study of human evolution and development); cultural anthropology (understanding existing cultural groups); and archaeology (researching past human life and culture).

What can I do with this course of study?

This program lays the foundation for a career in anthropology and archaeology, and many other fields. You’ll gain a broader, holistic understanding of the human experience, including behavior, social and language development, cultures and institutions, which will enhance virtually any profession. You’ll be prepared to transfer to a four-year institution to pursue a bachelor’s degree in anthropology or in a variety of majors such as business, law or international studies. Anthropologists work in a variety of settings, from medical fields where compassionate care is enhanced by understanding the diversity of cultures in the world today; to the tech industry, such as Google and Intel, to build an understanding of how technology can benefit our lives; and as cultural resource managers whose goal is to preserve past material culture; as well as many other fields.

What's special about the Anthropology course of study?

You’ll gain an understanding of human development, experience, histories, and cultures from around the world, with the benefit of small classes and individualized attention.
