SACCCATS Expands to Save Momma Dog and her Puppies

Being a mother is hard, especially when you have a litter of six without any help. This was the reality for the two-year-old Mama Foxy, a young stray dog who found a home in the San Antonio College campus, where she cared for her puppies alone for nine weeks. However, one dedicated group here on campus made it their mission to lend a hand to this adorable canine family.

Alamo puppy web.jpgSACCCATS was established by Janey Tippit, a support specialist in Office of Technology Services, with the goal of providing meals, veterinary support, and permanent housing or fostering opportunities for the stray cats and dogs on campus.

Every morning and evening, a team of volunteers led by Tippit trek across campus to provide food and water and use that time to spot any animals that may need vaccinations and health check-ups. The team crowd sources for financial resources to provide them with this necessary care. They also work to find suitable foster or forever homes through on-campus communications and social media.

Mama Foxy’s SAC story began on May 13, when Tippit found her making a home on campus at the old Early Childhood Center building, and started working on creating trust with the pup by feeding her through a slat in the fence.

She soon discovered Mama Foxy had six puppies she had been caring for and began providing food for them as well. Eventually Tippit was able to contact an animal rescue service that retrieved two puppies and Mama Foxy. However, the operation to retrieve the remaining four puppies lasted until the next day, where they were successful in coaxing them out with mom’s scent.

All the efforts to rescue this animal family paid off. Mama Foxy and all of her pups have been adopted.

"Friends of SACCCATS don’t just care for the kitties on campus. We care and provide for any animals that are in need," Tippit says.

The organization is accepting monetary donations and purchased items from their Amazon wish list. For more information on how to provide donations or care for the dogs, please visit the Friends of SACCCATS Instagram page or the Linktree available in their bio.
