San Antonio College Celebrates National Distance Education Week – November 10-14 2014 

Faculty and staff are invited to an Open House hosted by Office of Technology Services (OTS) to celebrate National Distance Learning Week (NDLW) on Wednesday, November 12, from 2-4 p.m., at the Instructional Innovation Center, MLC 712.  Join a team of experienced online educators as they share innovative uses of technology while enjoying refreshments and giveaways.    

NDLW was initiated by the United States Distance Learning Association (USDLA) to acknowledge the growth and advancements in the field of distance education.  In addition, please visit NDLW site and take advantage of the several free webinars available on various distance learning topics.

Cyber Security Awareness Month – October 2014

This month is National Cyber Security Awareness Month.  Office of Technology Services and Computer Information System departments has once again joined forces to take advantage of this month to raise awareness of Cyber Security issues.  Cyber Security Awareness Events at San Antonio College will take place between October 27 and October 30, 2014.  Select the Cyber Security Awareness Campaign link for additional information.

Cybercrimes are still on the rise and will continue to become more sophisticated especially within corporations and education institutions.  We all have to be aware of potential threats so we can be appropriately equipped with knowledge and awareness to fight cyber-crime.   San Antonio College is supporting this campaign and will promote safe computing through multiple IT security awareness activities.  Information Security at San Antonio College is everyone’s responsibility.  Stay Informed and Safe Online!

 Welcome Back Students Fall 2014– San Antonio College 08-25-2014

We hope you had a wonderful, relaxing summer and are geared up for an awesome Fall semester.  For those of you who are new to our college, Office of Technology Services (OTS), Service Center is located at the Moody Learning Center – Room 710 and is your one stop shop for all things related to IT.  We have walk-in hours daily where you can have your hardware and software issues addressed.  In addition, you can contact our College Helpdesk at (210) 486-0777 to receive technical support via telephone or by emailing  Furthermore, we also have a Student Mega Computer Lab located at the Moody Learning Center, 5th floor, Room 502.  The lab is open between 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Monday-Friday.  Our Mega Lab features many Windows and Macintosh computers and offers a wide variety of software programs.  Lab assistants are available to assist in the use of this computer environment.  On a final note, OTS is also participating and hosting a Welcome Days event at the Moody Learning Center, 2nd Floor Lobby area on August 25, 2014 and August 26, 2014 between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., stop by to receive technology information or to request quick support on technology issues.

 Wi-Fi Network Name Change  08-06-2014

The Alamo Colleges will be updating the "ACCD_Unsecured_Guest" Wi-Fi network name to "ALAMO_Guest".  This name change will not impact the service or behavior of Alamo Colleges' open wireless network.  If you currently have a wireless device that connects to "ACCE_Unsecured_Guest" wireless network you will need to reconfigure your device to connect to the new wireless network name of "ALAMO_Guest".  This name change will take place on August 8, 2014 at 10:00pm.  If you need technical assistance please contact IT Helpdesk for support:

Power-Up @ San Antonio College  05-26-2014

Charge your mobile devices (phones, tablets) with the recently installed KwikBoost Floorstand charging stations. Available for students, faculty, staff and visitors, the KwikBoost Floorstands provide convenient charging solutions for mobile devices while on the go. Currently charging stations are located at the Moody Learning Center 2nd Floor Lobby, SLAC Lab, Loftin Student Center, Student Mega Lab and the Instructional Innovation Center. OTS is working on placing more charging stations around the campus.

Student Mega Lab Expanding Operation Hours 05-26-2014

Due to popular demand, staring this fall, our college Student Mega Lab will expand the operation hours to include evening and weekend hours. The lab will be open Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 Noon. The Student Mega Lab is conveniently located at the Moody Learning Center, Room 502.​

Beginning Spring 2014, the Office of Technology Services, Student Mega Lab will offer technology workshops to teach your students technology in support of your classroom assignments.  We encourage you to take advantage of this fee-free workshop opportunity and bring your entire class to the Student Mega Lab for a brief session on a desired technology topic.

Current Available workshops include:

  • Creating a Powerful Presentation for your class

Announcing FREE Student Technology Workshops at the Student Mega Lab (MLC 502)! 01-13-2014

The Office of Technology's Student Mega Lab is now offering several new technology workshops to help you get ready for the Spring 2014 semester.  We encourage all SAC students to take advantage of the fee-free opportunity.

Events are free but require registration and sessions can be repeated as many times as you wish.  To review the workshops calendar and to register for the classes, visit and select the "Training Workshops" link on the left navigation bar.  A training calendar will be displayed.  To register, select the desired workshop session and complete the displayed registration form.  Select "submit" to complete the process.

National Cyber Security Awareness Month Event10-21-2013

As part of the National Cyber Security Month events at Alamo Colleges, we have an exciting session planned for you Monday, 28 October 2013 from 10:10-10:45 in NAHC (Nursing and Allied Health Building) 218 A/B at San Antonio College.  All Alamo Colleges students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend.  Faculty are encouraged to bring their classes to this exciting presentation.  Sessions will be educational and informative.

IT Security @ Alamo Colleges

Arne Saustrup, Senior Operations Manager, District Information Technology Services, Alamo Colleges, will provide an informative session on the latest security trends, threats, solutions and opportunities as it relates to information security at Alamo Colleges.  IT Security is an important topic for all San Antonio College employees and students in order to protect yourself and the College from security breaches.  The presentation will include an overview of information security and also highlight top security threats.

PC Clinic Serivce

The Office of Technology Services (OTS) and Computer Information Systems (CIS) departments will partner to provide a week long PC Clinic service for students and faculty at Alamo Colleges from October 21-25, 2013.  During this week, CIS students and OTS staff will provide basic diagnostics and security software to clean and secure personal laptops.  In addition, students and staff serving as PC Technicians will make recommendations to computer owners regarding hardware and software upgrades to improve computer performance.  We Invite you to visit the 7th floor of the MLC-Moody Learning Center between the hours of 8:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Monday-Friday and take full use of this free and valuable service.
