SPC Participates in Spurs' Back-to-School Bash

St. Philip’s College participated in the fifth annual Spurs Back-to-School Bash on Saturday, Aug. 8, at Frost Bank Center, welcoming more than 7,000 community members.

The free event, hosted by Spurs Sports & Entertainment, provided families with school resources, services and family-friendly activities ahead of the 2026-27 school year. The event was open to parents, students and teachers in grades K-12, with supplies and services available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies lasted.

The college’s participation strengthened its ongoing collaboration with the San Antonio Spurs through an NBA Foundation grant, providing an opportunity to showcase educational pathways and programs available to local students.

St. Philip’s College maintained a strong presence throughout the event. The High School Programs team was stationed on the main floor, highlighting the college’s Early College High School opportunities. The Cybersecurity and Information Technology team engaged families in the concourse with a robotics demonstration while showcasing the college’s academic programs, including its Bachelor of Applied Technology in Cybersecurity.

A team of St. Philip’s College student volunteers also supported the event’s free photo opportunity with the Spurs’ five championship trophies. Dr. Malikah Pitts Harvey, vice president for Student Success, helped direct traffic flow while student leaders assisted students, guests and families by taking photos.

The event provided St. Philip’s College an opportunity to connect with families, community members and organizations while demonstrating the college’s commitment to expanding access to education and career opportunities.

“Being part of the event was an incredible opportunity to connect with students and families where they are,” said Candace Barnett, Academic Program Coordinator for Cybersecurity & Information Technology. “Collaborating with community partners allowed us to show young people that higher education, technology and exciting career opportunities are within their reach. Events like this remind us that student success begins long before a student steps onto a college campus, and St. Philip’s College is proud to be part of that journey.”
