The Palo Alto College - Youth Apprenticeship Readiness Grant (YARG) Program partners with employers of all sizes to design and expand apprenticeship programs that are registered through the U.S. Department of Labor. 

A Registered Apprenticeship Program is a proven model of apprenticeship that provides employers with many benefits, including a well-trained specialized workforce, reduced turnover, improved loyalty, and greater workforce diversity. Employers drive the apprenticeship model by preparing future apprentices with structured on-the-job learning, classroom instruction, and full-time wages. Investing in talent development through apprenticeships improves employers' bottom line and enriches their work culture.

The YARG Program focuses on creating apprenticeship opportunities to meet the needs of the following growing industries:

  • IT and Cybersecurity
  • Finance and Business Operations
  • Logistics and Supply Chain Management
  • Advanced Manufacturing

 


YARG Support for Employers
  • Partner to deliver technical instruction and cover most training costs
  • Recruit and screen potential candidates
  • Conduct bootcamps where participants obtain industry-recognized credentials and develop career readiness skills
  • Provide participants with supportive services to ensure successful job performance

Participating Employer Requirements
  • Define the skills and competencies required of apprentices for your desired occupations
  • Provide on-the-job training and mentorship
  • Pay a full-time progressive wage to apprentices as their skills and knowledge increase
  • Monitor apprentice's progress and completion toward obtaining their occupational credentials
  • Agree and sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Alamo Colleges
