Prospective Apprentices

The YARG Program prepares young adults (ages 16 to 24) to enter careers in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Advanced Manufacturing, Logistics, Finance, and Business Operations through paid apprenticeship and internship opportunities.

The YARG Career Camp is intended to help participants learn and develop their job skills through classroom and hands-on learning. At the same time, the participant can earn an Industry Recognized Micro-Credential/Certification and gain hands-on experience required to enter the workforce.

Information Technology (IT)/Cybersecurity:

YARG – IT/Cybersecurity Career Camp participants can earn their CompTIA A+ certification and gain hands-on experience. CompTIA A+ Certification is the industry standard for establishing a career in IT/Cybersecurity and the preferred qualifying credential for technical support and IT operational roles. This certification will help develop a broader understanding and decide if a career in IT/Cybersecurity is right for you.

Camp Schedule
IT/Cybersecurity : Weekday Career Camp

Start Date: January 16
End Date: April 11
Schedule: Monday – Thursday, 6 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Duration: 12 weeks
Location: In-Person at Palo Alto College
Asynchronous work will be scheduled Jan. 19 and April 5
Certification: COMPTIA A+

Note* No classes will be held during the following breaks and holidays:

  • Spring Break March 11-17
  • Cesar Chavez Day April 1
IT/Cybersecurity: Weekend Career Camp

Start Date: January 19
End Date: April 20
Schedule: Friday 6 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. and Saturday 8:30 a.m.– 4 p.m.
Duration: 12 weeks
Location: In-Person at Palo Alto College
Certification: COMPTIA A+

Note* No classes will be held during the following breaks and holidays:

  • Spring Break March 11-17

Finance - Insurance:

YARG – Finance Career Camp participants can earn their IBM Data Analyst Professional Certificate and gain hands-on experience. At the same time, they learn and develop their job skills through a combination of classroom and hands-on learning.

Insurance: Weekday Career Camp

Start Date: January 16
End Date: April 11
Schedule: Monday – Thursday, 6 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Asynchronous work will be scheduled January 19 and April 5
Duration: 12 weeks
Location: Hybrid Schedule (Mon/Wed at Palo Alto College and Tues/Thus Online)
Certifications: Texas Insurance License, IBM Data Analyst Professional Certificate, and partial completion of Certified Insurance Service Representative (CISR)

 Additional Requirements:

  • Must be 18+ years old to apply
  • Must have HS Diploma or GED

About the Apprenticeship

The Insurance Career Camp is part of the Pre-Apprenticeship Program for the Robert C. Crosby Insurance Apprenticeship Program of Texas. The program allows participants to work towards a nationally recognized designation while getting hands-on experience with an employer. Through a partnership among the Independent Insurance Agents of San Antonio, Palo Alto College, and The National Alliance for Insurance Education & Research, find your pathway to a dynamic career in risk and insurance. Individuals who successfully complete the 12-week Insurance Career Camp are eligible to interview with an employer in the insurance industry for a full-time job as an apprentice.

  • Timeline: 18 months of on-the-job training and insurance-related education
  • Full-time Employment: Participants will be employed full-time with a Robert C. Crosby
  • Insurance Apprenticeship partner.
  • Starting Wage: $14.50 /hour with incremental increases during the program
  • Benefits: Receive employee benefits such as health insurance
  • Learn While You Earn: Simultaneously complete the CISR designation and other
  • industry education with no cost to you.

Advanced Manufacturing:

YARG – Career of Advanced Manufacturing Camp participants can learn the basics of industrial robotic systems, computer programming, and engineering, which will help them prepare to enter the Career of Advanced Manufacturing. At the same time, they learn and develop their job skills through a combination of classroom and hands-on learning.

Advanced Manufacturing: Weekend Career Camp

Start Date: January 26
End Date: March 23
Schedule: Friday 6 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. and Saturday 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Duration: 8 weeks
Location: In-Person at Palo Alto College
Certification: Students will complete the Quality Practices & Measurement module of the Certified Production Technician course by the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council.

Logistics: Weekday Career Camp

Schedule: Monday – Thursday, 6 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Duration: 8 weeks

Certification: Mercury Gate Transportation Certificate

Logistics:

YARG-Logistics Career Camp participants can earn their Mercury Gate Transportation Certificate, which will cover the foundational areas of logistics and supply chain and develop students’ ability to think critically and solve real-world problems.
