My first PAC experience was walking onto the campus fresh out of high school, when I wasn’t entirely sure where life was taking me. I didn’t have a clear vision for my future, but PAC gave me the space, support, and encouragement to explore.
I began as a student, taking courses for Hospitality Management and figuring things out one semester at a time. Somewhere along the way, I started working part-time on campus, and that’s where everything began to change and feel more RIGHT. I fell in love with the community here — the professors who inspired me, the colleagues who became mentors, and the students whose energy reminded me why education matters so much.
I still remember the impact of my very first boss, Katherine Doss, whose kindness and demeanor not only helped me excel in my career, but also helped me build confidence in myself. I also still use the lessons of my many professors like Veronica Rosas-Tatum, who taught me impactful career lessons that went beyond any classroom — lessons about professionalism, teamwork, and believing in your own potential. Palo Alto College didn’t just educate me; it shaped me. It molded my character, sharpened my skills, and opened doors I never imagined I’d walk through.
I’m especially grateful to our president, Dr. Robert Garza, for giving me the opportunity to step into my first professional role as an academic advisor — a position that allowed me to serve students the way others had once served me.
Today, I’m proud to not only guide students through advising but also teach them in the classroom, sharing both knowledge and life experience. Being able to come full circle — from an unsure freshman to an educator and advisor — is one of the greatest honors of my life.
As PAC celebrates its 40th anniversary, I see my own growth reflected in its story. This college has been my foundation, my training ground, and my second home. Here’s to 40 years of empowering students, building futures, and changing lives… mine included. David Mancha, MBA
