Faculty Member to Present at 2021 HBCU Entrepreneurship Virtual Conference

St. Philip’s College faculty member, Dr. Celestino Valentin, will be presenting at the 2021 Bowie State University HBCU Entrepreneurship Virtual Conference on September 30 – October 1, 2021. Dr. Celestino Valentin, who serves as the Program Director for Business Management and Administration at St. Philip’s, will be joined by Dr. Marie A. Valentin, Central Texas College Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Learning Outcomes.
The presentation titled, “Experiential Learning to Develop the Entrepreneurial Mindset,” focuses on co-curricular experiential learning activities; events and programs that supplement the instruction approach in most classroom settings; and identifying the features of an entrepreneurial mindset, particularly as it relates to accessing capital and building networks.
“Representing St. Philip’s College and the Business Information Solutions Department at the prestigious Bowie State University HBCU Entrepreneurship Conference is an honor and a privilege. The conference provides an opportunity for St. Philip’s College to demonstrate the learning and experience that our students receive in a forum for like-minded faculty and the opportunity to connect with colleagues and strengthen our HBCU and HSI faculty,” said Dr. Celestino Valentin.
Topics in the presentation will include:
- Discovering how to encourage entrepreneurship in the universities and colleges by actual practice rather than in theory
- How to get sponsorships for student entrepreneurs in universities and colleges
- How to create a balance between entrepreneurship and school workload
- Characteristics an entrepreneur should cultivate
- How to pitch your business
- How to write a proposal/request for grants
- How to build an effective network
