What is a Bachelor of Applied Technology (BAT) in Operations Management?
The BAT in Operations Management prepares students to be successful supervisors and leaders in various organizations. Graduates of the program will bring leadership expertise to the operations management industry, utilizing their business, finance, technology, and human resource development skills to coordinate and oversee the activities that deliver goods and services to customers.
Program Status
Palo Alto College has received approval from the State of Texas and from our accreditor, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, to offer the Bachelor of Applied Technology (BAT) in Operations Management, the college's first bachelor's degree. The program will open for its first cohort of students in Spring 2024. |

Texas Workforce ProjectionsThe Texas Workforce Commission projects 531,346 openings in 2030 for the operations management industry in Texas, up from 426,765 openings in 2020. The projected number of Texas graduates with a bachelor's degree in this area of study was 6,168 in 2021 (Texas Higher Education Accountability System), far short of the industry need. |
The BAT program is based on an Associate of Applied Science in Business but will accept 90 freshmen- and sophomore-level credit hours from various programs and disciplines. Specifically, those 90 hours are the following:
- The 42-hour Core Curriculum (general education courses),
- Thirty open-elective hours,
- These six courses (18 hours):
- ACCT 2301 Principles of Financial Accounting,
- BMGT 1309 Information and Project Management,
- HRPO 2301 Human Resources management,
- MRKG 1311 Principles of Marketing,
- One of these two courses: BUSI 1301 Business Principles or BMGT 1327 Principles of Management,
- One of these three courses: ACCT 2302 Principles of Managerial Accounting or ECON 2301 Principles of Macroeconomics or ECON 2302 Principles of Microeconomics.
After completing these 90 hours, the remaining ten junior/senior-level courses (30 hours) can be taken in the fall and spring terms. The requirements are fully outlined in the BAT Degree Plan by Semester.
The 120 semester credit hours required by the BAT in Operations Management will be available face-to-face or through online courses. The 30 semester hours of junior/senior courses will be available fully online. Students taking all their courses online are eligible for eRate tuition, which is currently $109 per semester credit hour for in-district Texas residents and $180 per semester credit hour for all other students living in the United States. The tuition rate for students taking face-to-face courses or a combination of face-to-face and online courses varies from the eRate for out-of-district and out-of-state students.
