Join us to develop techniques and best practices for working with this significant part of the Alamo Colleges student body. Learn from experts, faculty, staff, administrators, and students with first-generation experience. This mini conference is open to all Alamo Colleges employees.

Session Topics

Background information on first-gen students: Who are these learners? Where do they come from? What do they need?

In the classroom: Techniques, strategies, approaches, and assignments.

Success stories: Does your department, college, or university have a program or resource that has been effective? Share your story.

For administrators: What special challenges or opportunities do first-gen students present to administrative processes?

Simply fill out the proposal form and put "panel" as the session description.

Panel Opportunity: Celebrating First-Gen College Journeys

Are you a first-generation college student, graduate, or professional with a story to tell? We invite you to join our symposium and be a part of our empowering panel discussion.

Share your unique journey, experiences, challenges, and triumphs in a 50-minute session dedicated to celebrating and creating awareness around the inspiring narratives of first-generation college individuals. Your story can inspire, motivate, and provide valuable insights to our symposium attendees.

We welcome your participation in shedding light on the first-gen college experience, and we look forward to having your voice be a part of this meaningful conversation. Your story matters, and it has the power to make a difference.

Let's come together to celebrate, educate, and inspire others on the path to higher education and beyond. Join us in championing the remarkable stories of first-gen college individuals.

Proposal Form

Each session will start on the hour and be scheduled as follows:

5 minutes: Introduction
30 minutes: Presentation
10 minutes: Q&A and discussion
5 minutes: Fill out an evaluation form
10 minutes: Proceed to the next session
