Nighthawk Legacy Center to Provide Expanded Service to Military-Connected Students
Northeast Lakeview College, one of the five Alamo Colleges celebrates the completion of its newest building, Nighthawk Legacy Center, a stand-alone facility that will provide dedicated service and support to our Veteran and military-connected students. The college hosted a soft opening and ribbon cutting ceremony on November 11, followed by building tours
At approximately 11,000 sq. ft the building will provide a stand-alone facility that will offer dedicated services and support to our Veteran and military-connected students. Some of the enhanced services include focused advising, military education benefits information, and assistance with the transition from military to civilian life. The new center will also re-establish a Veteran mentoring program that matches incoming veterans with current students to support the transition process from military life to academia, enhancing student success in the classroom. The facility will also include a dedicated space to host organizations and other events that support Veterans such as faculty support in the classroom, military culture, and learning styles.
“We are excited to be one step closer to giving our Veteran students and their family members a space they can call their own,” says Dr. Veronica Garcia, NLC president. “This Center is a direct response to the veteran student population growth we have seen, with about 11% of students enrolled at NLC using veteran benefits last year.”
“The Nighthawk Legacy Center joins a growing network of veteran support centers across the Alamo Colleges District, says Chancellor, Dr. Mike Flores, “strengthening our ability to serve the more than 5,700 military-connected students district-wide.”
The architect on the project is Marmon Mok and the CMAR is Structure Tone Southwest.
The facility is being constructed from funds that were part of the state appropriations provided to the Alamo Colleges District for the 2022-2023 biennium.
