How the Program Works

The Bachelor of Applied Technology (BAT) in Management is built for students with technical or workforce education backgrounds ready to advance into supervisory and leadership roles. The program is structured in two key parts:

  • Foundational Coursework: Students begin with general education, lower-division, and elective courses to strengthen business communication, technical knowledge, and organizational skills.
  • Upper-Division Coursework: Advanced courses focus on applied management, logistics, leadership, quality control, and strategic operations—preparing graduates for management roles across industries.

Build on Your CTE Background

A major advantage of the BAT program is the ability to apply up to 30 semester credit hours of open electives from prior Career and Technical Education (CTE) coursework.

These credits can come from a wide range of disciplines, including but not limited to:

  • Logistics
  • Advanced Manufacturing
  • Nursing
  • Dental Hygiene
  • Agriculture
  • Business Management
  • Cosmetology
  • Computer Science and Technology
  • Engineering
  • Healthcare Administration
  • Horticultural Sciences
  • Veterinary Technology
  • Viticulture and Enology
  • Welding Technology
  • and more

Don’t Have 30 Hours of Prior CTE Coursework? Stack Credentials While Earning Your Degree

Starting fresh? No problem. Whether you're a first-time college student, high school graduate, or have earned your GED, you can begin building your future from day one.

If you don’t already have 30 hours of qualifying career and technical education (CTE) coursework, you can still stay on track by earning stackable credentials while completing your BAT degree. One option is to pursue a Level 2 Certificate in Business Management, which fulfills elective hours and adds value to your resume.

If you're just a few hours short, consider Occupational Skills Awards (OSAs) or Level 1 Certificates in various business and technical areas.

To learn more about the stackable credentials offered at Palo Alto College, visit the Business Management program page.

Transfer, Military, or Returning Student? You May Already Have Credits That Count

Students transferring from another college or university outside the Alamo Colleges District may have up to 30 hours of previous coursework evaluated and potentially applied to the open electives block of the BAT program — helping you stay on track and avoid repeating classes.

Veterans and active-duty military can also submit their Joint Services Transcript (JST) for evaluation and may receive up to 30 hours of credit toward the degree.

Note: Coursework that is over 10 years old requires departmental approval. Students in this situation must complete an Open Electives Form with the help of PAC or VA Advising.

Eligibility Requirements for Upper-Division Courses

To qualify for upper-division courses in the Bachelor of Applied Technology (BAT) in Management program, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Core Curriculum: Completion of all 42 semester credit hours required by the Texas Core Curriculum.
  • Lower-Division Courses: Completion of 12 semester credit hours of required lower-division courses specific to the BAT program.
  • Prescribed Electives: Completion of 6 semester credit hours of prescribed elective courses.
  • Open Electives: Completion of 30 semester credit hours of open electives.
  • Grade Requirement: A grade of “C” or better is required in each technical course.

Departmental approval overrides may be considered for students completing any of the above requirements in the same semester they intend to enroll in upper-level courses.
  • Disclaimer:
Students enrolled in the BAT program are required to complete ACCT 2301 as a lower-level foundation course. To enroll in ACCT 2301, students must first successfully complete the required Math prerequisite course with a grade of "C" or higher.
