Academic Success Centers

Currently enrolled students at San Antonio College may check out a basic calculator (TI-503), scientific calculator (TI-30), or graphing calculator (TI-84) for the semester provided they are taking a course requiring a calculator.  Students would visit the Academic Success Center (MLC 707) and our staff can assist in completing the necessary reports to check out or check in a calculator. 

Students can use the calculator for the entire semester and return it at the end of the semester.  

Please be advised that an equipment hold will be placed on the student’s account in Banner if the calculator is not returned at the end of the semester.  The hold will restrict the ability to register or request official transcripts.  Once a hold is placed, it will only be removed after the calculator is returned.

The Academic Success Center is one of the largest computer labs at SAC and provides students with

• over 80 computers 
• scanners (both sheet fed and flatbed)
• printing services
• mobile device charging stations
• access to WiFi

Gerald Manahan started a supplies station in the Academic Success Center to provide Alamo Colleges students with free school supplies.  We ask that students please check in at the front desk when coming for supplies so that we can see how much of a demand there is to continue or expand the service.

Supplies available include:

Cash donations to the supplies station can be made through the Alamo Colleges Foundation account established for the supplies station .. Gerald Manahan Student Supplies Program Fund.

Donations of school supplies may be dropped off at the Academic Success Center, MLC 707.

2 single person study pods are available for those wanting a reduced noise environment to work or study.  Check in at the front service desk using the studying service on the kiosk.

Subjects Tutored:

Note: Tutoring services are available by appointment. Drop-in tutoring is ok but is dependent on the tutors not having appointments. Students can schedule their own tutoring appointments by using the AlamoNavigate link inside their ACES account.  The tutoring availability schedule is posted on the SAC Tutoring page along with tutorial videos on how to schedule appointments and using Zoom.

If you send an email, make sure to include all necessary information (Banner ID, day, time, course number, whether in-person or Zoom) so that an appointment can be scheduled.

The Academic Success Center offers a variety of workshops to help students succeed academically and professionally. 

• generally 20-30 minutes in length
• one-on-one workshop appointments can be scheduled with a tutor or academic coach
• faculty can request to have a tutor present a workshop to their class

Brainfuse provides online tutoring for all Alamo Colleges students. Whether you need assistance with writing or help with concepts or topics from your course, "Brainfuse Online Tutoring" offers many beneficial services. These include real-time tutoring in the subjects listed below, writing assistance, on-demand videos, and self-help lessons on popular software such as MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Brainfuse Online Tutoring can be accessed only within your Canvas course.

Each San Antonio College student receives a maximum of 300 minutes per semester of online tutoring. Each time Live Tutoring is used, the amount of time spent with a tutor is deducted from the 300 minutes. Please note that each live tutoring session is limited to 30 minutes. Also, each time the Writing Lab is used to submit a paper, or each time the Submit a Question option is used, 35 minutes will be deducted. If students use all 300 minutes within a semester and need additional time, please email sac-BFadmin@alamo.edu to request additional time. Additional time is never guaranteed, a team will review your request and respond within 72 hours of the request.
