Three SAC students studying in the Radio-Television-Film program each won a $1,000 scholarship to study broadcasting from the Texas Radio Hall of Fame (TRHOF). A former SAC student, now at the University of Texas at San Antonio, received a transfer scholarship worth $1,000.

The students received the scholarships during a special reception held at the Texas Museum of Broadcasting in Kilgore. Scholarship winners were determined by a review board working with the scholarship underwriters.

Current SAC students who won scholarships were:

  • Candice R. Fuentes – the Henry “Pepsi” Peña Scholarship
  • Precious Faith Grant – the Rudy Treviño Scholarship
  • Monica L. Perez – the Emilio Nicolas & KWMC Scholarship

Elias Nararro, who graduated from SAC last spring and now attends the University of Texas at San Antonio, received the Bill Moffett “Make It Happen” Broadcast Production Scholarship.

“My affection for broadcasting began long before I could name it,” said scholarship winner Precious Grant. “I'm captivated by the perseverance of broadcasters who, in an era of misinformation, seek truth.”

Once she graduates from SAC, Grant intends to transfer to the University of Texas at Austin’s Moody School of Communication and enroll in their UTLA program, which offers a full semester in Los Angeles, providing significant insight into the entertainment industry directly from professionals already immersed in it.

Grant said the scholarship will take some of the weight of worrying about saving for tuition off her shoulders.

“I'm allowed to put more focus on maintaining my GPA and curating my portfolio; both of these are major factors not only in securing my acceptance into the university but also in increasing my chances of being accepted into the Moody College's Honors Program.”
