San Antonio College Welcomes Dr. Gilbert V. Castillo Jr. as Dean for Performance Excellence

San Antonio College is proud to announce that Dr. Gilbert V. Castillo Jr. has been named Dean for Performance Excellence.
With more than 30 years of combined experience in higher education and the U.S. military, Dr. Castillo brings a career defined by service, leadership, and a deep commitment to student and institutional success.
Most recently, Dr. Castillo served as the Director of Assessment and Accreditation in the College of Education at Texas Tech University, where he led strategic planning and accreditation efforts for multiple educator preparation programs. His leadership was instrumental in restoring full accreditation status, transitioning programs to new accrediting bodies, and establishing systems that drive continuous improvement and student success.
Dr. Castillo is no stranger to the Alamo Colleges District. He previously served as the founding Director of Institutional Research, Planning, and Effectiveness at Northeast Lakeview College, as well as in Institutional Research roles with Palo Alto College and District IR. His ability to build infrastructure from the ground up and provide strategic data support has left a lasting impact across the district.
In addition to his academic career, Dr. Castillo has dedicated more than three decades to military service in the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Army Reserve. He has held senior positions in human resources and training, including serving as a Senior HR Supervisor, Senior MOS Instructor, and U.S. Army Drill Sergeant. His military service reflects a lifelong commitment to leadership and professional development.
Dr. Castillo holds a Doctor of Business Administration in Organizational Leadership, a Master of Science and Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, and is completing a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education Administration. His professional expertise and personal values align deeply with San Antonio College’s mission of putting students first and striving for excellence.
