Timothy Pair Named Director of Advising

Timothy Pair has been appointed as Director of Advising for San Antonio College. Previously, he served as the Director of Student Success – Veterans Affairs.
As the head of advising, Pair’s responsibilities include:
- Providing vision and strategic direction for the Advising Department, aligning with institutional strategic goals.
- Developing and coordinating advising and student support services programs to ensure that staff certified advisors provide quality academic advising to students.
- Leading and evaluating initiatives to improve student retention, persistence, and ensure that students are successful in college and graduate in a timely manner.
served nearly 30 years in the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy. After retiring from active military service in 2017, he entered higher education as an academic advisor at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
He arrived at SAC in 2019 and became a certified advisor for the Victory Center, the home of the Veterans Affairs Office on campus. In that role he managed and monitored the academic progress and veterans benefit certification for more than 1,000 veterans, active duty, and their dependents through caseload management.
In 2022, he was promoted to Advising Team Leader for eight certified advisors, providing academic advising and caseload management for more than 3,500 students in two Advising Institutes: Science and Technology and Creative and Communication Arts Institutes, emphasizing program completion for every student. Within a year, his leadership improved the student experience and outcomes by 75%.
He was named Interim Director of the Veterans Affairs Office in August 2023 and made Director in January 2024. As the head of Veterans Affairs, Pair led services and programming for SAC students and staff who are veterans, service members, or their dependents. Under his leadership, SAC earned the Veteran Education Excellence Recognition Award (VEERA) in 2023, 2024 and 2025, a prestigious statewide recognition given to public institutions of higher education in Texas. It honors schools that deliver excellence in education and support services specifically tailored to student veterans and military-connected students.
Pair earned a bachelor’s degree in social science from Chapman University in Orange, Calif. and a master’s degree in educational leadership and administration from Trident University in Cypress, Calif.
