“My goal is to really help you propel what you are seeking to do and as we say, ‘clear the pathway,’ where you might find obstacles. Although as students you’ll find you have very few obstacles. We’re all here to support you on your goals,” Dr. Solis said.

This year, the SGA team has set its sights on increasing student involvement across campus while strengthening advocacy efforts on behalf of the student body.

“Being a voice for the students and a bridge between students and administrators on campus who can [push for change] is something that I am passionate about, and so are the other members,” said Smith, the new president, who is majoring in criminal justice.

For Smith, ensuring that all voices are heard is more than a role—it’s a calling. She hopes to one day pursue a career as a civil rights or immigration attorney, with a focus on helping marginalized communities.

“I want to do the greater good all the time. I want to help out my peers and individuals in my community, and if we work together, we can make good things happen,” Smith said.
