The PTK honor highlights presidents who prioritize academic achievement, leadership development, and meaningful student engagement.
San Antonio College President Dr. Francisco Solis has been named a Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) Paragon President Honoree, a national recognition celebrating college leaders who demonstrate a strong and immediate commitment to student success. He will be honored during PTK Catalyst, the organization’s annual international convention.
The Paragon President recognition highlights presidents who prioritize academic achievement, leadership development, and meaningful student engagement. Honorees are nominated by Phi Theta Kappa student leaders in recognition of their support and advocacy.
Phi Theta Kappa is the international honor society for students at associate degree-granting colleges, with more than 4.4 million members and nearly 1,250 chapters worldwide.
“Dr. Solis understands that leadership and academic excellence grow when students are empowered to contribute meaningfully to their college community,” said Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner, President and CEO of Phi Theta Kappa. “His investment in undergraduate research, leadership development, and student engagement reflects a commitment to building opportunities that have a lasting impact.”
At San Antonio College, Dr. Solis has strengthened PTK’s Beta Nu Chapter through intentional engagement, strategic investment, and visible support for student leadership initiatives. His commitment to funding travel, outreach, and undergraduate research opportunities has expanded access to leadership development and contributed to significant membership growth.
“Phi Theta Kappa represents the very best of what our students can achieve when they are given opportunities to lead, research, and serve,” said Solis. “Their work reflects the heart of San Antonio College’s mission, and it is an honor to support their growth and celebrate their accomplishments.”
By encouraging Honors in Action research and supporting the chapter’s College Project initiatives, Dr. Solis has helped position student leadership and data-informed learning as central elements of the college’s academic culture. Students and advisors note that he maintains an active partnership with PTK leaders, regularly meeting with officers, attending induction ceremonies, and celebrating student achievements at campus events.
“This recognition truly belongs to our students and advisors,” Solis added. “Their dedication, curiosity, and commitment to service are what make Phi Theta Kappa such a powerful force on our campus.”
The Paragon Award for New Presidents recognizes college presidents who have served in their role for less than three years and who have quickly established a culture that values academic excellence, student engagement, and leadership development. Paragon honorees help create environments where students are encouraged to persist, complete their credentials, and pursue meaningful transfer and career opportunities.
