Joyful Crowd Celebrates Founders’ Day at San Antonio College
October 1, 2025
It was a party 100 years in the making.
Nearly 1,000 people converged on San Antonio College’s campus on Saturday, Sept. 20, to celebrate Founders’ Day – a family-friendly outdoor party that officially kicked off SAC 100, the College’s yearlong centennial celebration.
Current and former students, employees, friends of SAC, and families with young children in strollers (possibly future SAC students) turned up for the evening celebration that took place on the Moody Parking lot.
The Founders’ Day celebration had the feel of a fall festival. Folklorico dancers performed for the crowd as they began entering the event. People enjoyed carnival rides, a rock-climbing wall, face painting, and balloon animals. Several food trucks were on hand selling a variety of delicious plates.
There was music throughout the evening beginning with local singer and SAC alum Patsy Torres, who performed pop, country, and Tejano hits for the crowd. She was followed by the legendary West Side Horns, a band that has been a San Antonio institution for decades. Velvet, a cover band, finished the night with a mix of rock and pop standards.
At the end of the evening, the SAC campus was lit up with a five-minute fireworks show orchestrated to Velvet’s live version of the 1980s Journey hit, “Don’t Stop Believin’.”
Founded in 1925, SAC is celebrating 100 years of serving students and the community. This academic year, the college will highlight its proud history, transformative impact, and bright future.
