St. Philip’s College Celebrates “Identifiable Leadership Day” in Honor of Dr. Adena Williams Loston

St. Philip’s College proudly introduces November 13 as the official Day of Identifiable Leadership—a day dedicated to celebrating and recognizing the visionary leadership of Dr. Adena Williams Loston, the 14th president of St. Philip’s College.

In commemoration of Dr. Loston’s birthday, students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to wear or display a red ribbon on the left lapel—a symbol of leadership, legacy, and the enduring spirit of St. Philip’s College.

This new tradition honors the legacy of Saint Artemisia Bowden, St. Philip’s College founding president, who wore a one-inch red ribbon on her left shoulder at the direction of Bishop Johnson for identification purposes. As principal educator, fundraiser, and philanthropist, Saint Bowden dedicated her life to empowering young women through education and leadership.

By honoring Dr. Loston with this symbolic gesture, the St. Philip’s College community continues to celebrate a proud legacy of service, strength, and transformational leadership that spans generations.
