The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) has granted initial accreditation to St. Philip’s College’s vocational (practical) and associate degree nursing programs.

The ACEN Board of Commissioners approved the recognition at its August 2025 meeting, confirming that both programs met the organization’s 2023 standards and criteria. The decision carries an effective accreditation date of June 15, 2023, and schedules the next evaluation visit for spring 2030.

“Our nursing programs at St. Philip's College have a long and proud history of providing quality education in San Antonio,” said Dean for Academic Success, Health Sciences, Christopher Metsgar. “Achieving initial accreditation from the ACEN is a testament to our commitment to excellence and the hard work of our faculty and staff. This milestone not only recognizes our dedication to preparing skilled nursing professionals but also strengthens our role in meeting the healthcare needs of our community."

ACEN officials confirmed that the decision included no stipulations or findings against the programs. Both programs will receive official certificates authenticating the board’s decision.

The vocational (practical) and associate degree programs join other accredited health sciences offerings at the college, which has expanded to meet growing demand in the healthcare industry.
