SPC Hosts Basketball Team from Monterrey, Mexico
September 22, 2025

St. Philip’s College (SPC) hosted an exhibition basketball game on Sept. 13, 2025, as the Borregos of Tecnológico de Monterrey traveled from Monterrey, Mexico, to face off against the SPC Tigers.
The Borregos beat the SPC Tigers 66-39, before a crowd of about 50 to 60 fans at the William Allen Hudgins Health and Wellness Facility on the SPC campus. The trip was coordinated by SPC’s head basketball coach, Nicolas Gomez, who was proud to welcome one of his players and his fellow coaches, with whom he worked in Mexico.
“It was a proud moment to see a former player return to compete at this level,” Coach Gomez said. “It made the event even more meaningful.”
The visiting team brought 50 players and coaches to San Antonio, traveling by van. After the game, both teams gathered for photos, and SPC presented each Borregos player and coach with a Tiger Nation shirt as a gesture of friendship.
The teams competed under the Texas Collegiate Athletic Conference, which is part of a broader effort by SPC to foster cross-cultural exchange through athletics. SPC hopes to make the series a recurring tradition, celebrating both competition and community annually.
