Nearly 500 students took part in St. Philip’s College’s annual SPC Cookout & Club Rush, two welcome events designed to showcase student organizations and campus resources at the start of the fall semester.

The first event was held Sept. 3 at the Martin Luther King Jr. campus, followed by a second on Sept. 10 at the Southwest Campus. Together, the two gatherings drew 497 attendees who enjoyed free food, music, and activities while connecting with peers and learning how to get involved on campus.

At the MLK Campus, 12 student organizations participated, including the Student Government Association, Phi Theta Kappa, Cyber Tigers, Spirit & Pride Crew, and Campus Ministry. Eight groups were represented at the Southwest Campus, including the Welding Club, Diesel Club, and First-Year Experience, alongside the Catholic Student Association.

Campus resources were also highlighted at both events, including the Student Advocacy Center, Library, Advising, Welcome Hub, and Instructional Innovation Center.

“Hosting and attending the SPC Cookout & Club Rush has been such a rewarding experience,” said Associate Director of Student Success Varryron Young. “It’s fulfilling to see students connect, discover new opportunities, and feel the excitement of being part of the SPC community.”

The events are part of St. Philip’s College’s Welcome Weeks, fostering student engagement and strengthening a sense of belonging at the beginning of the academic year.
