St. Philip’s College welcomed over 300 prospective students to its Health Professions Discovery Night on April 8, 2026, at the Center for Health Professions, offering an interactive look at careers in health sciences.

The event provided attendees with opportunities to explore the college’s health sciences programs, tour specialized labs and facilities, meet faculty and current students, and learn about educational pathways leading to high-demand healthcare careers.

“Tonight is your opportunity to explore our programs, meet faculty and current students, see hands-on demonstrations, and learn how St. Philip’s College can help you reach your goals,” said Dr. Christopher Metsgar, dean of the Division of Health Sciences.

The self-guided event encouraged participants to move at their own pace and visit program areas throughout the Center for Health Professions. Guests were invited to collect stamps in a passport by visiting at least six program stations, with completed passports entered into a scholarship drawing.

Attendees also had the option to visit the Applied Science Building for guided tours of programs including Nurse Aide, Vision Care Technology, Histologic Technician, and Biomedical Engineering Technology. Walking tours began in the Center for Health Professions at scheduled times throughout the evening.

The event also featured campus resources and community partners, including the City of San Antonio Block Grant, Project QUEST, Ready to Work, Methodist Healthcare and St. Philip’s College’s Center for Advocacy and Support. Student Life representatives were available at the Turbon Student Center to share information about clubs and campus engagement opportunities.

Christopher Smith, health services quality coordinator, said the event highlighted both the impact of the programs and the community's enthusiasm.

“My experience was truly exciting,” Smith said. “It was inspiring to see members of the community, both young and older, engaged and learning about our 18 health sciences programs.”
