St. Philip’s College welcomed incoming students and their families to campus Saturday, August 15, 2026, for Tiger Nation Family Day, an annual student convocation designed to introduce new Tigers to the college community and connect them with the resources, people and opportunities available to support their success.

Held in the William Allen Hudgins Gymnasium, the event brought together students, families, college leadership, faculty and staff for a day focused on building connections and preparing students for their educational journey at St. Philip’s College. The event drew 1,114 attendees, including 495 students and 619 guests.

The program included remarks from college leaders, student representatives and the student trustee, along with information about academic support, technology, financial literacy, transfer opportunities and campus resources. Students also participated in campus tours, technology sessions and activities designed to help them become familiar with the college and the support available to them.

St. Philip’s College President Dr. Adena Williams Loston welcomed students to Tiger Nation and emphasized that their college experience is an important step toward achieving their academic and career goals.

“Entering higher education is a significant milestone. It is a time of growth, discovery, and transformation,” Dr. Loston said. “The knowledge, skills, and experiences you gain at St. Philip’s College will help build a strong foundation for your future—whether your goal is to enter the workforce, earn a credential, or transfer to a four-year institution.”

Dr. Loston also encouraged students to recognize that their educational journey may include challenges and changes along the way. She urged students to work closely with their advisors, explore transfer pathways early and take advantage of the resources available to help them remain on track.

Students also heard from St. Philip’s College student leaders, including Student Government Association President Jackson Marshall and Alamo Colleges District Student Trustee David Bermejo, who shared advice and encouragement as students begin their college experience.

The day also provided students with opportunities to receive resources and support as they begin college. Giveaways included 10 laptops, two iPads and six backpacks. In addition, 10 students received $500 scholarships, totaling $5,000 in scholarship support.

The day concluded with opportunities for students and families to participate in financial literacy activities, campus and virtual tours, technology talks and other engagement opportunities.

Tiger Nation Family Day reflects St. Philip’s College’s commitment to ensuring students know from the beginning that they are part of a community dedicated to their success. As students begin their journey at St. Philip’s College, faculty, staff and college leaders stand ready to help them reach their educational goals.
