St. Philip’s College (SPC) hosted acclaimed journalist Cheryl W. Thompson on Feb. 26, 2026, highlighting her book, “Forgotten Souls: The Search for the Lost Tuskegee Airmen”.

The public event, presented by the San Antonio Book Festival in partnership with the Alamo Colleges District, invited attendees to explore the history of the Tuskegee Airmen through Thompson’s research and storytelling.

St. Philip’s College Interim Vice President for Academic Success, Dr. Kimberley Irving-Conaway, joined Thompson as moderator, guiding a discussion on the author’s investigation into the lives of overlooked members of the Tuskegee Airmen.

According to the National Air and Space Museum, the Tuskegee Airmen trained in Alabama during World War II, with nearly 1,000 Black pilots completing training between 1941 and 1946. The unit flew more than 15,000 missions in Europe, escorting Allied bombers and earning numerous military honors.

“This event reflects our shared commitment to literacy, civic engagement, and meaningful dialogue. Through partnerships like this, we invite premier authors to San Antonio and to our colleges, creating spaces where ideas can be explored, history examined, and truth illuminated,” said Dr. Adena Williams Loston, President of St. Philip’s College.

The event concluded with an audience Q&A session, followed by group.
