SPC Names Patricia Lamson as 2026 Teaching Excellence Awardee
February 24, 2026

St. Philip’s College (SPC) has named Patricia Lamson, Assistant Professor and Clinical Coordinator of Health Information Technology, as the recipient of the college’s 2026 Teaching Excellence Award, recognizing her innovation in the classroom, commitment to student success, and service to the community.
Lamson is a Registered Health Information Technician and holds a certificate in Cancer Data Management, along with multiple teaching certifications. She earned an associate degree in health information technology from SPC in 2013, where she was an honors award recipient, a member of Phi Theta Kappa, and a Presidential Scholarship recipient. She later earned a bachelor’s degree in health care management from the Baptist School of Health Professions.
As a proud SPC graduate, she brings both professional expertise and a personal connection to her teaching methods. Lamson is known for transforming complex medical concepts into engaging, interactive learning experiences. Her creative teaching methods include hands-on activities such as an “Indiana Bones” escape room and a “Kill the Patient” assignment, both designed to strengthen critical thinking, encourage collaboration, and reinforce real-world application through group exercises.
Lamson was one of the first faculty members in the Alamo Colleges District to develop two digital badges within a single course, setting a standard that inspired other faculty to adopt similar instructional practices.
Her contributions extend beyond the classroom. Lamson co-leads Jessica’s Project and the Faculty Student Mentoring Program and actively participates in the Caring Campus Initiative, programs focused on strengthening student connection, engagement, and belonging. She also teaches Continuing Education courses to expand access to professional learning opportunities.
Her community service includes volunteer work with the Baptist Healthcare System, the Audie Murphy VA Hospital, and the San Antonio Police Blue Santa program.
With seven years of teaching experience, Lamson said the award represents a deeper meaning of success.
“I am humbled to receive this recognition, and I gladly accept it,” she said. “I never thought I’d be honored like this. Excellence has a new definition for me. It isn’t about degrees or titles, it’s about being human and showing compassion.”
