At the Alamo Colleges District Board Meeting on Feb. 24, St. Philip’s College (SPC) Professor Beatrice Avila was recognized as the Alamo Colleges District Faculty Member of the Month for her leadership, service, and unwavering commitment to student success. As she was being recognized during the Board Meeting, Beatrice Avila shared that some of her family members, who are SPC alumni, were present to support her.

Avila has served as Program Director and Assistant Professor of the Health Information Technology program since 2020. She has been part of the Alamo Colleges District since 2005, contributing nearly two decades of experience in education and workforce development.

Beyond her role in the classroom, Avila has made significant contributions to SPC. She is actively involved in initiatives such as the Faculty-Student Mentorship Program, Jessica’s Project, CultureFest, the Health Sciences Hospitality Committee, the MLK March, and the college’s Graduation Committee.

Her leadership also extends into the community. Avila is a member of the American Health Information Management Association and currently serves as president of its state board. She previously served as president of the Alamo Area Health Information Management Association, supporting professional development and collaboration at the regional level.

Recently, she was selected as an Alamo Colleges District ambassador for Alamo Connect, helping promote educational opportunities and community engagement across the region. She also serves the community as a member of United Way’s Emerging Leaders and volunteers with Child Advocates of San Antonio, supporting children and families through advocacy and service.

“I am honored to be able to give back to the profession and community that have invested in me,” Avila said. “By sharing my knowledge with our students, I know I leave a lasting legacy. I am confident that my work at SPC is creating positive change in the health care system.”
