February 12, 2026

St. Philip’s College President Dr. Adena Williams Loston has been recognized as one of the Alamo Colleges District’s 80 Champions of Opportunity as part of its 80th anniversary celebration.
Dr. Loston has distinguished herself as the district’s top donor for eleven consecutive years, reflecting a commitment to leading through example. The recognition highlights individuals who have advanced access to education, social mobility, workforce development, and community empowerment.
The tradition of giving at St. Philip’s College dates back to its founding President, Saint Artemisia Bowden, who sustained the institution in its early years through extensive fundraising efforts.
“I grew up in a caring family, a giving family,” Dr. Loston said. “I am richly blessed in so many ways, including financially. Because of that, I don’t dare not give back. I don’t dare not share what I’ve been blessed with.”
Dr. Loston was recognized for embodying several Champion of Opportunity attributes, including serving as an Ambassador of Opportunity, representing the district’s mission and values; a Storyteller and Advocate, amplifying the impact of educational access; a Community Connector, strengthening relationships between the district and the community; and an Active Participator, providing mentorship and leadership through service.
The Alamo Colleges District is recognizing 80 Champions of Opportunity, which is a group of leaders, advocates, and community partners whose contributions have expanded opportunities for students and communities across the region.
