SPC Hosts Tiger Nation Family Day
January 20, 2026

St. Philip’s College (SPC) hosted Tiger Nation Family Day on Jan. 10, welcoming nearly 100 students and their family members to introduce campus resources, celebrate community, and reinforce student success at the start of the Spring 2026 semester.
The student convocation began at the William Allen Hudgins Health and Wellness Building and is a signature SPC event, taking place at the beginning of every fall and spring semester.
The event officially began with a parade entrance of college administrators and student leaders, followed by welcome remarks from the Student Government Association President, Angela Cordero.
Dr. Malikah Pitts Harvey, Vice President for Student Success, opened the event. As part of the program, students participated in the “Commit to Complete” pledge, reaffirming their dedication to graduating with their degree. The pledge was followed by a symbolic lapel pinning, led by Dr. Kimberley Irving-Conaway, Interim Vice President for Academic Success, to serve as a reminder of students’ connection to the 127-year legacy of the college.
The convocation continued with an interactive Financial Wellness Family Feud, engaging students and families while emphasizing financial literacy. Participants in the activity received backpacks with school supplies. Backpack recipients included Macayla Garcia, Eduardo Sanchez, Sebastian Di Paolo, Alina Diaz, Analyss Torres, Charlene Ingram, Derek Fuentes, and Geketa Clark.
Additionally, five $500 scholarships were awarded during the event, reaffirming the college’s commitment to access and affordability. Scholarship recipients were Estrella Aguirre, Deseriah Lanae Hernandez-Mayfield, Brianna Wilson, Oralia DeLeon, and Cesar Velazquez.
Following the program, attendees participated in guided campus tours, which concluded at the Turbon Student Center with a resource expo. Students completed surveys, received T-shirts, and had opportunities to win prizes, including laptops awarded to Michelle Starr and Aubree Cantu, and an iPad package awarded to Martha Huitron.
