St. Philip’s College (SPC) raised more than $172,000 for student scholarships during its 17th Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament, held March 6 at Olympia Hills Golf & Event Center.

The annual event, the college's largest scholarship fundraiser, drew 154 golfers, including three student teams, as well as community leaders, sponsors and supporters. Proceeds support tuition and textbook costs for students pursuing degrees and certificates across more than 100 academic and career programs.

“The purpose of this tournament is simple but powerful: to raise scholarship dollars for our students,” said St. Philip’s College President Dr. Adena Williams Loston. Approximately 87% of SPC students rely on financial aid or scholarships to attend.

Since its inception in 2009, the tournament has generated more than $2 million in scholarship funding, helping reduce financial barriers and support student success. This year’s fundraising goal was $130,000, a benchmark the event exceeded.

The tournament also highlighted student achievement, with 10 student golfers participating after receiving training and preparation. Students had little to no prior golf experience before joining the program.

During the tournament, golfers participated in on-course activities, including a hole-in-one contest with a vehicle prize sponsored by Jordan Ford. No winner was recorded for the contest.

FLINTCO served as the tournament’s title sponsor, joined by dozens of other corporate and individual contributors whose support helped make the event possible.

Tournament results included:

First place: Dean’s Range Finders — Andres Arredondo, Steve Rocha II and Steven Zuniga

Second place: FLINTCO Team 1 — Chad Hunter, Sonny Knox, Brian McCoy and AG Yowell

Third place: Team Franklin — Stephen Conley, Christopher Everett, Ken Ewell and Dr. Kevin Franklin

The Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament is held each year on the first Friday in March as part of the college’s anniversary celebration. This year marked the college’s 128th anniversary. The next tournament is scheduled for March 5, 2027, at Olympia Hills Golf & Event Center.
