SPC Represented at 2026 HBCU Leadership Summit
March 25, 2026
On March 20, 2026, St. Philip’s College President Dr. Adena Williams Loston and Scholarship Coordinator Gloria Hernandez traveled to Dallas to escort five SPC Strada Scholars to the 2026 Strada HBCU Leadership Summit. The summit is part of the Strada HBCU Initiative, which elevates the transformative economic, social, educational and cultural influence of historically Black colleges and universities.
Four of the five scholars are upcoming graduates: Jimmy Quintana III, who earned an Associate of Applied Science in Electrical Trades and is employed by the City of San Antonio; Shamarai Marshall, pursuing a Bachelor of Applied Technology in Cybersecurity; K’Don Burnette is working on an Associate of Arts in Kinesiology; Dominique Green is currently working on her Associate of Arts in Business Administration; and Janiyah McCoy, pursuing an Associate of Science in Biology.
The SPC scholars participate in the college’s “Generational Wealth” program, now in its fifth year. Through the initiative, students focus on financial literacy, budgeting, organizational leadership, endowments, and time management. They meet monthly with college leadership to develop skills that promote long-term financial security for themselves and future generations.
During the summit, Loston also served on a panel to discuss how St. Philip’s engages students to cultivate future leaders. She serves on the National HBCU Strada Advisory Board.
The 2026 summit offered scholars a platform to discuss their academic experiences, navigate challenges, demonstrate leadership, network with industry professionals, and celebrate their accomplishments.
Since its beginning, Strada has invested $25 million to partner with 47 HBCU institutions, supporting scholarships, internships, and leadership development for more than 450 selected scholars nationwide.
