Dr. Veronica Garcia became President of Northeast Lakeview College (NLC) in 2017. Since her appointment, NLC has received accreditation and continues to expand its academic offerings to students in northeast San Antonio and surrounding communities, including Bexar, Comal, and Guadalupe Counties.
A visionary, high-energy leader, Dr. Garcia has served in several top-level roles at multi-campus community college districts. Her responsibilities included student affairs operations, curriculum approvals, strategic enrollment management planning, accreditation self-study process, and student pathways. Through shared governance, she led several system-wide transformative changes that resulted in increased graduation rates and improved student information systems.
Dr. Garcia has teaching experience and curriculum development at previous institutions where she was employed. She was instrumental in sponsoring and implementing several Veteran Centers and her long-standing commitment to providing educational services to Veterans earned her the Service to Veterans Recognition Award in 2012.
An advocate for student pathways, Dr. Garcia is dedicated to improving student intake services and aligning academic and student affairs to enhance and foster student success. She understands the importance of faculty involvement and its impact on student completion. Valuing partnerships, she has established relationships with local organizations, businesses, and schools, to provide access and empower students for success through high impact teaching and learning and a variety of resources provided by the college.
Dr. Garcia has served on several national boards and worked on numerous leadership teams in Arizona, Oregon, and Texas. She has presented nationally at various higher education conferences regarding student engagement, leading system changes, systems thinking, financial literacy, and leveraging technology to improve student success.
She holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education from Oregon State University, a M.Ed. in Leadership from Northern Arizona University, a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Arizona and a Faculty Standard Certification.
