Adjusted Schedule for Spring Semesters

Remote teaching, learning and working extended through Spring 2020 16-week term

To continue safety protocols, the Alamo Colleges District will continue remote teaching, remote learning and remote working through the end of the Spring 2020 16-week term (May 16, 2020). We will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation, and, if circumstances regarding health and safety change, we will review the possibility of extending our remote operations or slowly transitioning remote workers to on-site work while student learning remains remote.


The end dates for the Spring Flex semesters have changed.

  • Flex I will be extended by one week; ending March 28.
  • Spring 2020 Flex II begins March 30 for a 7-week term ending May 16.
  • The regular Spring 16-week semester will not be extended.

Textbook Information

During this unprecedented time, we remain committed to serving Northeast Lakeview College. To that end I would like to offer the following updates and resources:

  • RedShelf  – Follett is partnering with RedShelf, to provide free digital access to students for all eBooks. The student can find the link on our bookstore website and must use their .edu email account to get access.
  • Lumen – Our partners at Lumen are offering Waymaker and OHM, available at no cost for courses currently in session.
  •  – Free shipping for all online purchases. There will be a Customer Note and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) added to all store websites. The FAQs will be updated as needed.
  • Rental Returns – Rental grace periods will be extended to 15 days. Grace period extension will allow more time for in-transit rental check-ins to be processed. Free shipping labels are available to all US rental patrons until midnight of the due date. Current rental patrons will also receive a message this week regarding this extension.
  • ACCD has extended the IM Direct submission deadline for Fall 2020 until March 27
  • Textbook adoptions can be submitted remotely at Department chairs have logins set up under your .edu email address. If you would like a login for any faculty member, please let me know.

Software & WiFi

Canvas: All courses will now be facilitated through Canvas, the Alamo Colleges District learning management system. You can access Canvas through ACES.

  • Beginning Wednesday, March 17, students will be able to access the Remote Ready Boot Camp for Students. You can find it in your Canvas course list. Zoom: Your instructors and your advisors will be using Zoom to interact with you.
  • Using Zoom via the Web: You do not have to set up an account because Zoom is available via the web:  Faculty and staff will send you meeting invites, and you can join the meetings by simply clicking on the link  
  • Using Zoom via the App: If you choose to download the zoom app, you must sign in “with SSO”. The company domain name is: alamo.  Once that information is entered, you will be directed to the ACES login page. Simply log in to your ACES account and your available meetings will appear.

  • ACES e-mail account: The official form of communication. We will be sending you updates, so please check regularly.
  • CANVAS: Your instructors may be communicating with you through your CANVAS course.

Veterans Affairs

The Alamo Colleges District Veterans Affairs Offices are providing advising and benefit certification services to our students remotely due to the ongoing COVID 19 situation.  Please contact your home campus VA office by email or phone by using the information found in the “Contact Us” tab below.  The VA has provided some guidance pertaining to the payment of housing allowance for students who have had all of their courses converted to online courses as a result of COVID 19 campus closures as follows:

You may also email your assigned VA advisor for information on how to submit your requests to have your courses certified or for general information.  Please be aware that all advising appointments are being conducted remotely and your advisor will work with you to schedule an appointment as soon as possible.

The colleges of the Alamo Colleges District are conducting classes remotely beginning March 23 due to the coronavirus situation. This includes the main campus of Northeast Lakeview College and its satellite locations and offices. For registration and other information, visit our website at


Classes for all of the Alamo Colleges will resume on March 23 for all students. Face-to-Face courses will resume through remote teaching and learning. Face-to-face classes will meet remotely as a class at the regularly scheduled time and day using a video conferencing tool called Zoom. Each Face-to-Face class will also have a Canvas course established to help facilitate remote learning.

Canvas will be the primary means of communication from now on for face-to-face courses while in remote learning.  Faculty will use the Canvas announcements and inbox features to share information about coursework. Students should review their course syllabus, consistently watch for messages in Canvas regarding coursework, and participate in Zoom sessions during the remote instruction period.

In preparation for remote learning, students are strongly encouraged to begin monitoring their Aces email and Canvas on Monday, March 23rd. In addition, students are strongly encouraged to take the one-hour training called Remote Ready Boot Camp: Student, which is available to them in Canvas as soon as possible.

While we engage in remote learning, Northeast Lakeview College still has tutoring with both our regular in-house tutors and external tutors through Brainfuse. Brainfuse provides support for all Alamo Colleges students.

Brainfuse Online Tutoring can be accessed from within ACES or from any Canvas course:

  • Select Live Help if you have a quick question – sessions are 30 minutes.
  • Select Tutor Match if you want to work with one of NLC’s in-house tutors.
  • Select Writing Lab if you want a paper reviewed in 24 hours.

You have 7 hours for use with Live Help and the Writing Lab. Your time in Tutor Match is unlimited, but please respect the needs of others and only book up to 2 hours twice a week.

Library Resources

All checked out materials from the spring semester will be due on Sat, May 16, 2020. Please disregard any emails about late materials. All fines will be waived through May 16th.

The Library will be sending out announcements via Nighthawk Notes, Facebook posts, the Library website, and LibGuides. Please check these throughout this time.

During this remote period, printed materials will be unavailable for circulation. However, you can access all electronic resources through the library’s website.

The Library’s Virtual Reference Desk will be manned from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM Monday through Thursday and 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Friday. We will be closed on Saturday and Sunday. Advisors: Your Certified Advisor is the main point of contact as you are progressing through your degree. They are knowledgeable about degree requirements and resources on and off-campus.

The health and wellness of students and staff of Alamo Colleges District is our highest priority. Out of an abundance of caution, the Alamo Colleges District has made some temporary changes to the way we provide instruction and operate in light of the growing concerns related to the coronavirus.

  • Spring break will be extended for one week for students.  All classes are canceled March 16-20 as faculty and staff prepare to transition to working, teaching and learning remotely.
  • Alamo Colleges District campuses and buildings are closed to students the week of March 16-20 with the exception of college libraries and computer labs.
  • Classes will resume on March 23 through remote teaching and learning.
  • Students should not return to campuses for classes and will be instructed on how to continue classes and receive support remotely.
  • Students with Work-Study jobs should not report to work on Monday, March 16. This includes both on and off-campus work-study students. Expect to receive further information from your supervisor.
