NLC Named 2023 Most Promising Places to Work in Community Colleges Award Winner
May 5, 2023
The National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) and Diverse: Issues In Higher Education (Diverse) have recognized Northeast Lakeview College as one of the 2023 Most Promising Places to Work in Community Colleges!
The annual award recognizes community and technical colleges committed to diversity through best-in-class student and staff recruitment and retention practices, inclusive learning and working environments, and meaningful community service and engagement opportunities. The national study employs a web-based survey approach to obtain information from NISOD member institutions. A multipart, weighted algorithm is used to classify the responding institutions.
“We are proud to honor these colleges for their sustained commitment to diversity,” said Edward J. Leach, NISOD’s Executive Director. “We are also pleased about the large number of applications this year. It shows that a growing number of colleges appreciate how critical diversity and inclusion initiatives are to their campuses and communities.”
“Northeast Lakeview College focuses on creating a respectful and inclusive environment where people’s needs, ideas, and involvement are critical parts of college operations,” says Dr. Veronica Garcia, Northeast Lakeview College president. “Recognized as a Most Promising Places to Work in Community Colleges annually since 2019, I am inspired by NLC’s commitment to our value of Respect for All and dedication to meet the needs of the diverse community that we serve.”
The award-winning institutions will be recognized during NISOD’s International Conference of Teaching and Leadership Excellence, May 27-30, in Austin, Texas. Additionally, award recipients receive a specially-designed logo that can be used to promote the institution’s commitment to diversity during student and staff recruitment efforts, as well as during other times when they want to highlight their commitment to inclusiveness. The awarded colleges are also featured in Diverse’s newsmagazine, the only bi-weekly national publication focusing on matters of access and opportunity for all in higher education.
