If someone is in immediate danger

  • Call 911 immediately
  • On campus: Alamo Colleges Police Department – 210-485-0911
  • Stay with the person if it is safe to do so
  • Do not leave them alone until help arrives

 

Recognize signs of a crisis

Warning signs of possible suicidal risk

  • Talking about wanting to die or harm themselves
  • Saying goodbye or giving away belongings
  • Expressing hopelessness or feeling like a burden
  • Talking about how or when they might end their life
  • Posting concerning messages, videos, or images

Other urgent concerns

  • Threats of harm toward others
  • Severe confusion, disorientation, or hallucinations
  • Inability to function or care for basic needs
  • Appearing under the influence and unable to respond appropriately
  • Reporting recent violence, assault, or fear for personal safety

 

What to do

If the person is at immediate risk

  • Call 911 or 210-485-0911 (ACPD)
  • Stay calm and keep a safe distance if needed
  • Remain with the person until help arrives (if safe)

If the person is distressed but not in immediate danger

  • Listen without judgment
  • Take what they say seriously
  • Encourage them to seek help
  • Connect them to support resources below
