Dr. Jonathan Lee Named Dean for Academic Success

Jonathan Lee web.jpgDr. Jonathan Lee has been appointed Dean for Academic Success for San Antonio College.  He had served as interim dean since October 2020. In this position, he will report to Dr. Stella Lovato, Interim Vice President for Academic Success.

As Dean for Academic Success his duties will include:

  • Providing oversight in the development of the new bachelor’s in nursing degree program, the first bachelor’s degree offering within the Alamo Colleges District.
  • Serving as the lead in the development of new Career and Technical Education workforce programs and certificates, micro credentials, and C.E. to Credit  Pathways and prior learning assessment.
  • Serving as liaison for the Jobs and Education Workforce Development/Career/Technical programs, as well as local, state, and federal economic and workforce training agencies and employer partner organizations.

Lee began his career at SAC as a member of the history faculty in 1997. He has held several leadership positions at the college, including department chair of History, Humanities, and Anthropology from 2009 to 2011. He was the Honors Academy coordinator from 2011 to 2016, and department chair for Mexican American Studies, Early Childhood Studies, Sociology, Social Work, and History since 2018.  

He has served on the Faculty Senate and the District Council of Chairs. Lee also has served as a LEAP Texas Fellow, as well as a member of the American Historical Association’s Tuning Project.  He is the past president of the World History Association of Texas.

Lee holds a doctorate in history from the University of Texas at Austin, a master’s degree in International Relations from Yale University, and a bachelor’s degree in International Studies from Virginia Tech.
