The Alamo Colleges District now offers students a Summer Momentum Plan that saves eligible students time and money. The plan allows students who earn 18-24 credit hours in the Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 semesters at any of the five colleges at the Alamo Colleges District, to get three to six FREE credit hours in the Summer 2020 semester.
The Summer Momentum Plan enables more students to achieve the life-long benefits of college, with less financial stress. Students can earn their degree in less time, save money and use their financial aid more effectively.

Students who earn a total of 24 or more credit hours in the Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 (any combination) semesters, at any of the five colleges, at the Alamo Colleges District, get up to six free academic credit hours in the summer, at a yearly tuition savings of $594. This allows them to earn the 60 credit hours needed for their degree in just two years.
Students who earn a total of 18-23 credit hours, at any of the five colleges, at the Alamo Colleges District, in the Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 (any combination) semester, get three free academic credit hours in the summer, at a yearly tuition savings of $297, allowing them to complete their degree in three years. Out-of-district students can save even more. The free summer credit hours must be taken at any of the five colleges, in the Alamo Colleges District, in the summer semester immediately following the qualifying fall and spring semesters.
Eligible students can attend any of the five colleges in the Alamo Colleges District, which offer fields of study in a wide range of areas, including accounting, biotechnology, business, computer science, criminal justice, early childhood education, nursing, and paralegal. All Alamo Colleges earned credit hours (Credit Courses with a grade of "C" or better) count toward the Summer Momentum Plan free hours.
Students are encouraged to take hours within their program plan.
Students do not need to be approved for the Summer Momentum Plan. They will just need to meet the Alamo Colleges District Earned Credit Hours Qualifications and Hours Requirement.
Tuition will credited in May 2020.
Only credits earned at any of the five colleges, in the Alamo Colleges District, will be counted upon meeting eligibility. Alamo Colleges District earned credit courses with a grade of “C” or better. Transfer hours are not counted as earned credit hours.

No paperwork will need to be completed. Eligibility is determined after grades have been posted for the spring 8-week and 16-week terms.
No. The free hours must be taken in the summer semester immediately following the fall and spring semesters when the qualifying hours were taken.
Yes, students can split the credit hours as long as the student is enrolled in 6 hours total for the summer semester.
No. Maymester does not count towards Alamo Colleges District hour’s requirement nor Alamo Colleges District earned hours Qualification.
Students will be charged as usual and the Payment application will be automated, so there will be no need to pay up front, unless it is for a Maymester registration or for additional hours registered; above your eligible, free Summer Momentum Plan, 3/6 hours earned.
The Summer Momentum Plan will only cover regular tuition. It will not cover fees, Special Program Tuition, Instructional Materials Charges, 3 Peat, 27 HR Rule, etc.
The rules are the student must meet the Alamo Colleges District Earned Credit Hours Qualifications and Hours Requirement, maintain a current account balance and resolve any outstanding Money HOLD’s before the Summer Momentum Plan can be applied for the Summer Term.
Most hours are eligible for the Summer Momentum Plan free hours, with a few exceptions. Students are encouraged to take hours within their program plan. The free earned summer semester 3/6 hours will be applied to academic courses only.
Yes, Alamo Colleges District earned, developmental class hours billed at regular tuition schedule will count towards eligibility for the Summer Momentum Plan.

Yes, Maymester classes will need to be paid by the Maymester payment deadline.
Yes, the Summer Momentum Plan can be used. The Summer Momentum Plan is applied on the student account, as the first source of payment, Exemption/ Waivers are applied on the student account second and used to reduce any “remaining eligible tuition and fee charges”, covered under the exemption/ waiver.
Will the student need to wait to set up the payment plan until after the tuition charges are waived to avoid paying for the free hours?
Students with a minimum balance of $100 in eligible tuition and fee charges may sign up for a Payment Plan. Students are encouraged to visit the Summer 2020 Registration/ Payment Calendar: http://www.alamo.edu/calendars/ for Payment Deadlines and Payment Plan availability, etc. A payment plan initiated May 1st- May 21st, prior to the Summer Momentum Plan payment application, will be inclusive of all tuition and fee charges owed, for the term, at the time the payment plan is executed. Once the Summer Momentum Plan is applied to a student account, the Payment Plan will adjust accordingly, followed by an automated email sent to the student.
Student is responsible to make payment on any remaining balance, according to the Summer 2020 Registration/ Payment Calendar.
Any unpaid tuition and fee balance may result in students being dropped from all courses.
The sponsored (3rd Party Billing) tuition assistance cannot be used towards the 3/6 FREE credit hours, but can be used towards any remaining eligible tuition and fee charges, covered under the sponsored (3rd Party Billing) tuition assistance.
No, transfer hours are not counted as earned credit hours, these include the study abroad courses paid through Marketplace.
No, students participating in a High School Programs (Traditional Dual Credit, Early College High School, Academies), early admit and transient students are not eligible for the Summer Momentum Plan.
The Summer Momentum Plan is a non-refundable program, and a student may owe money back for a course dropped prior to Census, for any Part of Term. All Adds/ Drops should be completed prior to the start of related term. Refer to summer 2020 Registration/ Payment Calendar.
Drops after the start of class will have SMP Scholarship adjustments, resulting in a balance on the student account. The award can be reinstated if the student registers for a class in a later part of the term. Lack of academic success in the summer class (or classes) may not drive repayment. Students should be aware that failure to successfully complete your courses might impact your Satisfactory Academic Progress for financial aid or Academic Standing.
Will the Summer Momentum Plan, have an impact on other Financial Assistance?
- A student’s Pell Grant award is not impacted
- In some cases, other federal aid such as loans or work-study may be adjusted when necessary if the student does not have sufficient “unmet need” to be compliant with federal regulations.
