St. Philip’s College (SPC) student Honey Sanchez will graduate this December with an Associate of Applied Science in the Collision/Refinishing Technician program. She began the program in 2021 while attending Phoenix Middle College High School.

Honey chose SPC after being encouraged by an advisor and because it was one of the only higher institutions offering the program. She said the program’s faculty played a significant role in her success by consistently motivating her and recognizing her achievements.

“The faculty were my biggest supporters. They acknowledged my success along the way, and that kept me going,” she said.

As a woman entering a traditionally male-dominated field, she said the experience has been empowering. She credits her instructors with teaching her the importance of precision and detail; skills she said have helped her earn respect in the industry.

Her interest in automotive work runs in the family, as many relatives work in the automotive industry. She said pursuing a degree in collision and refinishing felt like a natural next step.

During her time at SPC, Honey completed internships with Steel Body Work and Brass Knuckle Kustoms, where she gained hands-on experience in polishing, dent repair, painting, and detail work. She said the program’s emphasis on hands-on learning helped her build muscle memory and refine her technique.

After graduation, Honey plans to continue working in the industry to gain additional experience before opening her own restoration shop specializing in custom auto work.

Congratulations, Honey!
