St. Philip's College Surgical Technology Program Achieves 100% Certified Surgical Technologist Exam Pass Rate

St. Philip’s College proudly announces that its Fall 2025 Surgical Technology graduating class achieved a 100% pass rate on the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) Certified Surgical Technologist (CST®) Examination.

All 26 graduates from the Fall 2025 cohort completed the requirements for the Associate of Applied Science in Surgical Technology and sat for the national certification examination on August 13, 2026. Every graduate successfully passed the exam, demonstrating the knowledge, technical skills and professional preparation required to enter the healthcare workforce as a Certified Surgical Technologist.

“This outstanding achievement reflects the dedication of our students and the exceptional instruction provided by our faculty and clinical partners,” said Dr. Christopher Metsgar, Dean for Academic Success Health Sciences. “A 100% pass rate is a testament to the quality of educational experiences our students receive in the classroom, simulation laboratory and clinical settings.”

The CST® certification is the only surgical technologist credential recognized and endorsed by several leading healthcare and surgical organizations, including the American College of Surgeons, Council on Surgical & Perioperative Safety, Association of Surgical Technologists, American Society of Anesthesiologists, American Association of Surgical Physician Assistants, American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology and American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses.

The St. Philip’s College Surgical Technology Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). It prepares students to become essential members of the surgical team. Through classroom instruction, hands-on simulation, and clinical experiences, students develop the skills necessary to support safe and effective patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures.

As the need for highly trained surgical technologists continues to grow throughout Bexar County and the surrounding region, St. Philip’s College is expanding access to the program. Students will now be admitted during both the fall and spring semesters, creating additional opportunities for individuals interested in entering the profession.

The program’s next cohort of 20 students began classes on August 24, 2026, and an additional cohort of 20 students is scheduled to begin in January 2027.

The 100% certification pass rate, combined with the program’s expansion, reinforces St. Philip’s College’s commitment to preparing highly skilled healthcare professionals ready to meet the workforce needs of San Antonio and surrounding communities.
