Representatives from the U.S. Small Business Administration, Texas Veterans Commission, Alamo Colleges District, and St. Philip’s College (SPC) gathered on June 12, 2026, to celebrate the ribbon-cutting of the Small Business Administration Veterans Business Outreach Center (VBOC). This new resource at SPC is designed to help veterans, service members, and military spouses pursue entrepreneurship and business ownership.

The center, located within the college’s Good Samaritan Veterans Outreach & Transition Center (GSVOTC), is the first of three centers planned for Texas. The VBOC is supported by Governor Greg Abbott, funded by the U.S. Small Business Administration, and administered through the Texas Veterans Commission’s Veteran Entrepreneur Program. It will provide entrepreneurship training, business counseling, mentorship, capital-readiness resources, and support for small-business development.

“Today’s ribbon cutting sends a clear message to veterans, service members, and military spouses,” said St. Philip’s College President Dr. Adena Williams Loston. “You are valued. Your service matters. Your dreams of business ownership and economic independence are worth investing in. And you have partners standing beside you every step of the way.”

The new center expands opportunities for military-affiliated students seeking to launch, sustain, and grow businesses. Services will include individualized counseling, entrepreneurial training programs, and access to resources that help business owners navigate financing and growth opportunities.

According to the Texas Workforce Commission, Texas is home to approximately 1.5 million veterans, the largest veteran population in the nation. Supporting veterans remains a key priority for SPC, where more than 10% of students are veterans.

The college’s commitment to serving military-affiliated students recently earned statewide recognition. In 2025, the Texas Veterans Commission awarded the college its Veteran Education Excellence Recognition Award for the fifth consecutive year.

The VBOC is expected to serve as a hub for entrepreneurial development, helping veterans access training, mentorship, and resources needed to launch and grow businesses while contributing to local and state economies.
